Scholarships

SEMVMA offers scholarships for both veterinarians and veterinary technicians every year.

SEMVMA members who are recent graduates of veterinary school (within the last 3 years) are eligible to apply for a $2,500 debt reduction award to be used to pay down student loans. SEMVMA is concerned that the average debt load for a veterinary education has reached $212,000. This debt adds to the stress of new graduates. Each year, SEMVMA will award two $2,500 grants during the annual Membership Celebration Dinner. The awards will be chosen randomly from applicants and money will be paid directly to the student loan lending company. The grant will be awarded to two members who meet the following requirements:

• are SEMVMA members

• have graduated within the last three years (2024, 2025, 2026)

• work and/or live in one of the nine SEMVMA member counties (Oakland, Macomb, Wayne, Lapeer, Washtenaw, Monroe, Livingston, Genesee, St Clair)

• have active, verifiable student loan debt

• have not received the award in the past

To apply, please complete the following application and send it to the SEMVMA office at SEMVMAsecretary@gmail.com by the due date of October 17th, 2026.
